It’s Been A Long, Exhausting, But Wonderful DNA Week!

This past week I took a deep dive into DNA. I’ve had this goal for a long time, but never set aside the time to really start that journey. It is a fascinating topic and one that every genealogist should have a basic understanding of whether they use it or not.

The course was offered by IGHR, the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research. It was a foundational program on DNA…getting the basics of what it is and how to use it in genealogical research. If you would like more information on IGHR, their website is https://ighr.gagensociety.org/. Here’s a sneak peek at the topics we covered:

Over the coming weeks, I’ll rewatch every session to make sure I get the most out of each class. And I’ll be putting it to use quickly. There are DNA matches on my match list that are just waiting to be identified, which means new cousins who could have more information on my family!

This week’s blog is short and sweet. Here’s hoping you take a little time to learn about things that have been on your to-do list!

Genealogy tip: If you are just starting your DNA education, YouTube has many wonderful videos for beginners. From there you can explore more formal educational opportunities like institutes.
